Welcome,
Thank you first of all for taking the time to visit my shop.
My name is Abraham Villalobos. Amor Vive was birthed during the pandemic of 2020. It started with my first piece, El Korazon. A thrifted white Levis denim jacket. It was a little dirty, but to me, I saw a blank canvas with plenty of life left in it. The jacket took me about 8 months to complete. It is all hand stitched with a chain stitch through out. I incorporated Swarovski crystals and beads on the sleeves and both front and back hearts. The jacket represents LOVE.
Growing up in Chicago in the 1980s. The city was a blue collar working class microcosm. I was exposed to Gospel and blues at an early age visiting the original Maxwell street market. My father is a master tailor and we would always buy the nicest fabrics, shoes, and hats. It also awakened my love of vintage, repurposed, refurbished, and second hand clothes…I waited anxiously every Sunday after mass to visit the market. We grew up in the inner city. Both my parents worked at factories, my mother in a pencil factory in Roscoe Village, My father at a dress factory and various cleaners in Pilsen. Gangs ruled the city, but we survived. House music, break dancing, gangster rap was the soundtrack of my youth. Summer nights where always with my parents listening the Golden oldies on magic 104. These memories shaped me.
I was born to create, I like to find and help people see exactly how magical we all are inside with the power of clothing. All my pieces are salvaged clothing, shoes, and accessories. I believe the world needs help in healing. With so much fast fashion out there, it has affected consumption and waste. I don’t want to add to it. All my trims, fabrics, clothing will be repurposed and salvaged. I want to create pieces that tell a story for you. Each one is carefully assembled and curated by me. I believe that Love heals, builds, nurtures, creates, and empowers. I am living my truth in every stitch, every fabric, every patch I make. I want you to live your truth, in love.
Love lives,
Lust kills…
